Do fans have their first official look at Doctor Doom? Robert Downey Jr. may have revealed the design of his villain in Avengers: Doomsday on his birthday!
Robert Downey Jr. recently turned 60-years-old. An exciting milestone, especially as the actor is wrist-deep in production for Avengers: Doomsday. Most expected the actor to step away from the rigmarole of the Marvel Machine, putting down the Doctor Doom mask for the day to truly spend some quality time with those he loved.
He likely did that, for sure. However, it seems even when Robert Downey Jr. is taking a break, he can’t help but tease Doctor Doom’s grand design. In this case, literally. The actor revealed a Doctor Doom themed invitation to celebrate his birthday while production of Avengers: Doomsday trucks on. The front of the invite features a brand new design for Doctor Doom, potentially teasing what the character will look like in the upcoming film.

Doctor Doom’s Design In Avengers: Doomsday
This design for Doctor Doom would certainly be a departure than anything seen before in the comics. Not even to mention the complaints that are bound to be slung at Avengers: Doomsday for their CW-ification of his costume, trading in regal robes and armor for a simple green jumpsuit. And while it’s likely that Robert Downey Jr. wouldn’t share the finalized design of his character, it’s more likely than not this card is hinting at a new direction for the villain’s aesthetic.
The one benefit one could say this design has, at least for Avengers: Doomsday, is that Doctor Doom looks like a mechanic. If this aspect holds true through the release of Avengers: Doomsday, the odds that Robert Downey Jr. is playing an alternate version of Tony Stark over a true blue Victor Von Doom increases exponentially. Though any details that can be gleamed from this birthday card will only be useful insofar as fans can figure out how true to form the drawing is.
