It’s likely that the Russo Brothers will fall back on their familiar bag of tricks, making Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom the “hero” of the story similar to Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, due to how little the character has been set up, fans are a bit lost on what his goal will ultimately be.
Some light has been illuminated on the villain’s true motives in Avengers: Doomsday thanks to the latest rumor round-up by Alex Perez at the Cosmic Circus. The scooper reveals that Doctor Doom’s main motive heading into the film will be to stop the Incursions plaguing the Multiverse. However, his role as a hero seems to be secondary to another drive: making sure Doom is above all!
“He sees the incursions that are happening as a danger to the Multiverse, and he wants to put a stop to it using a young Franklin Richards. He sees himself as the hero in this story and will do whatever it takes to make sure he stays on top.”
Doctor Doom’s New Team In Avengers: Doomsday
This rumor certainly lines up with previous information fans have gotten when it comes to Doctor Doom’s role in Avengers: Doomsday, with him travelling through the Multiverse as a savior. However, Alex Perez also confirms another detail that fans have long been speculating about. Robert Downey Jr. seemingly won’t be alone, with the scooper confirming there will be a “Team Doom” in the film.
This lines up with early reports that a version of the Masters of Evil will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Given Robert Downey Jr. is the face of Doctor Doom, it’s likely that these characters will be similar to the “Dark Avengers”, serving as dark reflections of some of the most iconic heroes from the Sacred Timeline that will be faced-off with in the film’s climax.
