Will Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch be the ultimate power couple? An Avengers: Doomsday rumor reveals the relationship Elizabeth Olsen’s heroine will have with the main villain.
Its long been speculated that Elizabeth Olsen would be playing a large role in Avengers: Doomsday (or, prior to the renaming, Kang Dynasty). The Scarlet Witch has been one of the few overarching threats in this phase of the MCU, serving as an antagonist in one film, the protagonist of a series, and an influencing force in another.
However, with Doctor Doom being revealed as the main villain of Avengers: Doomsday, fans began to worry what exactly Elizabeth Olsen’s role in the film would look like. Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch had a short but controversial romance in the pages of Avengers: The Children’s Crusade. It was entirely possible, given that Robert Downey Jr. is set to play the titular villain, that Wanda would be sidelined as simply a lackey love interest in the project despite her enormous growth in the MCU.
Scarlet Witch’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday
Speculation has been flying across the internet about what a relationship between Robert Downey Jr. and Elizabeth Olsen’s characters would even look like on the silver screen. However, someone has finally come to set the record straight. Scooper Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus revealed that the Scarlet Witch will be working alongside Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, but their partnership will be entirely platonic.
“I’m going to let you in on a pairing I’ve heard rumored for a while now,” Perez explained. “And it’s made its way already on social media, but there is credence to the rumor of the Scarlet Witch being paired up with Doctor Doom for [Avengers]: Doomsday.“
“But I do want to clarify that this isn’t some weird marriage scenario like it in the comics. Wanda’s goal will be to try and undo the mistakes she made whilst using the Darkhold. This is going to be all about her redemption arc.”
It’s certain fans are relieved to hear that Elizabeth Olsen won’t be relegated to Robert Downey Jr.’s love interest in Avengers: Doomsday. While it was always clear that Doctor Doom would be taking center stage in the film, it’s also good to hear that the Russo Brothers seem to be treating the Scarlet Witch’s redemption arc similar to how they wrote Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Perhaps the multiverse saga may truly end on a high note!
