Denzel Washington is officially joining the MCU! The blockbuster star confirms he’ll be teaming up with Marvel Studios to play a role in Black Panther 3.

There was a time when Denzel Washington was considered one of the biggest names in Hollywood. The actor was almost inescapable in the 80s and 90s, starring in hit after hit with nearly a dozen Oscar nominations to his name. While the actor has slowed down in recent years, it seems he’s finally set to return to the world of blockbusters with the MCU, revealing that Ryan Coogler is writing him a part in Black Panther 3.

“For me, it’s about the filmmaker, especially at this point in my career,” Washington explained to Today Show Australia. “I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make; probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done. Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”

Chadwick Boseman once stated that there would be no Black Panther without Denzel Washington. The news that the beloved actor would now be joining the franchise in Black Panther 3 was both an amazing surprise and a full-circle moment that sets up for a truly emotional conclusion to Ryan Coogler’s trilogy.

Who Is Denzel Washington Playing In Black Panther 3?

The internet has been ablaze with speculation about what role Denzel Washington could play in Black Panther 3. The first hero that came to mind for many was Blue Marvel due to the actor’s age. However, given Washington is close to a retirement from acting, it’s not likely Ryan Coogler would recruit him for a role that could carry his own franchise in the future of the MCU.

This led most to settle on the idea that Denzel Washington will be playing the main villain in Black Panther 3. However, there’s almost no information about who that could be, especially given Ryan Coogler didn’t even use a Black Panther villain as the antagonist in Wakanda Forever. Though regardless of who he does play, it’s certain to be a part for the ages.
