While every film production runs into its fair set of problems, there are very few films that have experienced them as publicly as Blade. The reboot of the iconic Daywalker was announced all the way back in 2019, with Mahershala Ali revealed to be starring as the titular anti-hero. Yet as the MCU’s multiverse saga trucked further and further along, the film was hit with delay after delay due to a mix of departures, strikes, and rewrites.
This all came to a head at the end of October when Disney officially removed the Blade reboot from their release calendar for the MCU. Many saw this as a death rattle from the production, with one final delay serving as quite cancellation for Mahershala Ali’s pet project. Another rumor pointed to the indefinite delay being related to Marvel’s current multiverse saga. However, it seems the project may still have a chance to meet its old release window.
Blade May Start Production Next Year
A new rumor by inside DanielRPK reveals that things are finally looking up for the Blade reboot. According to his latest scoop, Mahershala Ali is happy with the current draft of the script, and Marvel is close to finding a direct for the project. This means that production on the film could start up sometime next year, as no other MCU project is as far along in development.
Marvel would have to run one lean ship to get Blade out before its last release window in November, 2025. While certainly possible, it’s more likely than not that the reboot joins the MCU’s 2026 line-up alongside projects like Avengers: Doomsday. While it’s not likely Mahershala Ali would appear in the film, the high-profile project could help give the project some legitimacy among fans who worry that the production troubles have resulted in a worse project, not a better one.
