Will Spider-Man 4 be a prequel? A rumor gives fans an answer to one of their biggest questions about the MCU and Avengers: Doomsday.
Fans were over the moon when news finally broke that Spider-Man 4 will be beginning production next summer. While it’s high time that the webslinger make his return to the MCU, the film’s placement left many fans worried. The project is set to film and come out after Avengers: Doomsday and before Secret Wars, leaving many to wonder how exactly this might affect the film’s story.
Many hope that Spider-Man 4 will take an approach similar to Ant-Man and The Wasp. Despite coming out after Avengers: Infinity War, it was chronologically a prequel within the MCU, with the events happening before and concurrent with Thanos’ infamous snap. The hope is that the events of Spider-Man 4 would take place prior to those of Avengers: Doomsday, despite Tom Holland also appearing in that film.
Is Spider-Man 4 A Prequel To Avengers: Doomsday?
Hopes for a prequel may be quashed, however. A new rumor from Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus seemingly confirms that Spider-Man 4 will chronologically take place between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Meaning whatever wide-ranging consequences the MCU has in store for those films will directly effect the events of the film.
While this may come as a disappointment to fans who wanted a grounded story for Spider-Man 4, there is some hope. Perez speculates that Avengers: Doomsday will set up a One More Day-esque scenario where Doctor Doom gives Peter Parker everything he wanted in life. This could allow for a grounded story while also tying into the themes of the broader multiverse saga.
