Why does Marvel keep pushing back Blade? A new rumor explains why the project seem eternally delayed, and why Mahershala Ali hasn’t left the film.
While Marvel has had many cursed projects throughout its existence, perhaps none have been more visibly cursed than Blade. The highly-anticipated reboot was announced with Mahershala Ali to star all the way back in 2019. Yet after years of the project being delayed, the film has officially been taken off the studios’ 2025 release schedule, leaving many to wonder if it’ll ever come out at all.
However, it seems some (though likely not all) of the times Blade have been delayed may have been on purpose. According to a rumor by Alex Perez, a scooper at The Cosmic Circus, the film has been delayed in order to make room for multiverse stories while the saga is still ongoing. This means Marvel has been putting projects like Mahershala Ali’s reboot and Armor Wars on the backburner until they align with the franchise’s needs.
Why Is Mahershala Ali Still Attached To Blade?
With how much Blade has been delayed, fans have started to question why Mahershala Ali is even sticking around Marvel Studios to see the project through. Alex Perez also has a rumor to answer that, revealing that there are big plans for the character spanning multiple projects focusing on the supernatural side of the MCU, which is the primary reason that Ali is holding on to the role in spite of how long its taken the project to see the light of day.
This would also explain why other supernatural characters such as Moon Knight and Werewolf By Night haven’t gotten follow-ups despite being incredibly well received by audiences. Especially since Marvel Studios has a new mandate to slow things down, any long-arc stories featuring Mahershala Ali as Blade would’ve had to have been delayed alongside his debut film.
