Is Robert Downey Jr. causing some major drama? The latest rumor suggests that Avengers: Doomsday may be in some major turmoil due to the franchise’s star.
One of the most controversial decisions that Marvel has ever made was the choice to bring back Robert Downey Jr. and have him play Doctor Doom. Many saw this as a blatant grab for nostalgia in a time where the franchise was floundering critically and commercially. However, the one saving grace fans saw was that, due to his experience with the franchise, Avengers: Doomsday would at least be able to be filmed without a hitch.
Though assumptions don’t always play out the way fans hope. It seems that Robert Downey Jr. himself may actually be the core of many problems plaguing Avengers: Doomsday. Speaking on The Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider reveals that the star’s ego is causing issues on set. The rumor suggests that the project had to go through some major reshoots, and that tensions are still high as filming continues on.
“They had a body double and a face double, and Robert would stand outside the scene reading the lines. And apparently, after two or three weeks, he said, ‘This isn’t working. I want to shoot the whole thing with me in the suit.'”
“The dysfunction I’ve heard about on set is second only to that of the Fast and Furious movies. I mean, we mentioned a behind-the-scenes incident earlier this year that I didn’t want to go into detail about, and someone probably made it sound more dramatic than it actually was, but… yeah.”
“I think, again, there’s a lot of testosterone and a lot of ego on that set. A lot of people who think they know the best path. In the end, only one person’s path matters, and that’s actually Robert Downey Jr.’s path.”
This Rumor May Not Be What Fans Think…
Even more so than most reports that come from the rumor mil, this should be taken with a grain of salt. Back in 2023 during the production of The Marvels, Jeff Sneider claimed that Brie Larson has a “nightmare” on set, which caused the film to be delayed. All information, both at the time and currently, suggests that is false. It’s likely, if not certain, that the same could be said for his reports about Robert Downey Jr. and Avengers: Doomsday.
Of course, given the wild production of Avengers: Doomsday, it wouldn’t be shocking if there was some push-and-pull between The Russo Brothers, the writers, Kevin Feige, and Robert Downey Jr. about which direction is best. Though any true rumor detailing those would likely be less glamourous than this.
