Is Brie Larson to blame?

The upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels has been delayed once again from its release date of July 28, 2023 to the new date of November 10, 2023. A new rumor suggests that the reason for this delay was actually due to the behavior of the film’s star Brie Larson.

This rumor comes from a recent episode of The Hot Mic. According to host Jeff Sneider, the delay comes from the production being chaos. He describes Larson as a “nightmare” and that she has repeatedly clashed with co-star Teyonah Parris, who is set to play Monica Rambeau in the film. Sneider did not clarify exactly how this behavior may have interferred with the post-production process.

This contradicts prior reports from The Wrap that contribute the delay to allowing more time for post-production work. Marvel Studios has been in hot water in recent years for their VFX work, with the most recent example of this being the backlash to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Regardless of the reason for the delay of The Marvels, most fans seem to agree that more time put into VFX can only be a good thing.

One of Marvel’s biggest projects to date

recent synopsis for The Marvels teased that the film features a team-up between Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. The movie serves as a direct sequel to three Marvel Studios projects — Captain MarvelWandaVision and Ms. Marvel. It also features the return of Nick Fury, with Samuel L. Jackson reprising the role after his six-episode Disney Plus series Secret Invasion.

“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe,” reads a translated version of the synopsis.

“When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The Marvels also stars Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur. The movie is currently slated to hit theaters on November 10, 2023.
