‘Avengers: Endgame’ Originally Had Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Fight [SPOILER]

Avengers Endgame Chris Hemsworth Thor

Warning: The following post contains Avengers: Endgame spoilers about Chris Hemsworth’s Thor!

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed they originally planned to have Chris Hemsworth’s Thor fight a past version of himself.

Avengers: Endgame followed our heroes as they traveled back in time to collect the Infinity Stones in hopes of using them to reverse Thanos’ decimation. While they attempted to avoid interacting with past versions of themselves or loved ones on their journey, Captain America found himself in a showdown with his 2012 self while trying to regroup with his comrades.

However, Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo revealed they almost decided to have Chris Hemsworth’s Thor fight his past self instead before realizing “it overly complicated [the plot]” and that they preferred giving the moment to Captain America. Instead, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor was given time to properly say farewell to his late mother, who realized he was visiting from the future, and the Russo Brothers explained why this was a more appropriate choice for the character’s journey:

“I think there, we also deferred to the storyline between Thor and his mother. [It] was so resonant, that we really wanted to run… That was really more a part of Thor’s journey and repair than confronting his former self. So that’s really what happened there, why we went with that.”

Personally, I feel the filmmakers made the right call in giving Chris Hemsworth’s Thor a chance to reunite with his mother, but would you have preferred to see a showdown between two versions fo the God of Thunder? Let us know below!

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo,  Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in theaters!
