‘Avengers: Endgame’ Directors Reveal That Captain America Was Almost The Soul Stone

Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo have revealed that, at one point, Chris Evans’ Captain America was the Soul Stone.

Throughout the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the films steadily revealed the Infinity Stones as part of a build-up to what eventually became Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. The one stone that they did not reveal, however, was the Soul Stone. Apparently this was intentional and, at one point, the Soul Stone was meant to be Chris Evans’ Captain America.

In Avengers: Infinity War it turned out that the Soul Stone was on a planet known as Vormir and could only be obtained through personal sacrifice. In Infinity War that sacrifice was Gamora so Thanos could obtain the stone. In Endgame, Black Widow sacrificed herself so Hawkeye could obtain the stone. Earlier today during a quarantine watch party from Comicbook.com the Russo Brothers revealed that, at one point, the stone would have been Captain America but the people behind the movies quickly scrapped the idea:

What do you all make of this idea? Would making Captian America the Soul Stone have been an interesting twist? Was what the writers come up with better? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here is a plot synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
