After Earth’s Mightiest Heroes hopefully avenge the fallen in Avengers: Endgame, what next for the team? Writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus want to take on Secret Wars.
The writing team behind Marvel projects like Captain America: Winter Solider, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have proven their worth at Marvel Studios. The duo have been with the studio since 2011 and have written some of the biggest blockbusters the studio has put out in the 7 years since they joined up. And now, they want to take a crack at the 1985 Marvel Comics event, Secret Wars.
The Secret Wars comic introduces The Beyond as he pulls superheroes and villains from their homes and shakes them to Battleworld. There, The Beyonder commands them all to fight to the death and for the the winner, “all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!” The comic saw epic battles between heroes and villains from all over the Marvel Universe, the introduction of Spider-Man’s iconic black symbiotic suit and sees the previously intelligent Hulk return to his former, savage self. There was a 2015 reboot of the comic as well.
Back in November of last year, the Russo Brothers showed interest in adapting the comic to live-action. Now, with the writers of their last for Marvel Studios films also showing interest, perhaps the idea could move forward the the higher-ups at Marvel Studios. Especially now that Disney has acquired Twentieth Century Fox and now has the film rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, which both teams feature heavily in the Secret Wars comic. Perhaps this film could be the introduction of these characters into the MCU since Kevin Feige has recently stated that it would be a while before we see those characters be introduced.
Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus spoke with ScreenRant on the topic of the Russo Brothers doing a Secret Wars film.
“I have to read ‘Secret Wars’ again. It’s literally ben ten thousand years. If Joe and Anthony do another Marvel movie and they don’t have us write it, I will be personally offended“.
