Avengers director Joss Whedon never got the chance to see his panel go through at Comic-Con@Home.
Joss Whedon was one of the many big names who was expected to be gracing Comic-Con this year for their virtual panels. His panel, dubbed “A Zoom With Joss Whedon” was originally supposed to air on Friday at 5 p.m PT. Prior to the Avengers director’s panel, The Wrap took note that it was quietly removed from the official site. What’s interesting is that panels that were canceled had a message stating that they were canceled whereas Whedon’s panel was nowhere to be found. The YouTube link which was provided by Comic-Con@Home was unavailable for streaming.
There were little to no details regarding the Avengers director’s panel other than the fact that it would be airing on Friday. Almost all of Comic-Con@Home’s panels were pre-recorded. Joss Whedon has been embroiled in controversy as of late due to Justice League star Ray Fisher’s comments. Earlier in the month, the Cyborg actor stated that Whedon was abusive on the set of the DC super-hero film. Whedon famously took over directorial duties from Justice League director Zack Snyder after he stepped down from the film due to a family tragedy.
Ray Fisher’s comments on Avengers director Joss Whedon saw numerous other allegations against the filmmaker surface. A stunt coordinator on Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently labeled Joss Whedon an “egomaniac“. Seeing as Whedon is navigating negative press at the moment, it makes sense that he’d want to shelve his Comic-Con@Home panel so he doesn’t draw too much attention. What remains unclear is if the Avengers director bowed out or Comic-Con@Home was responsible for pulling the panel.
