One of the biggest breakout stars for Marvel in recent years is Channing Tatum. The man truly made a name for himself as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, leaving many fans hoping for the actor to make his return as the Coolest Cajun in an upcoming X-Men project. Yet while he may not be the face’s of the upcoming reboot for the franchise, a new rumor suggests that the studio does want him back in the next two Avengers films.
In the monthly Q&A released by Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus, the scooper revealed that Channing Tatum’s Gambit has a very high chance to return in the next Avengers films. The rumor does not disclose if Marvel wants Tatum for Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, or both. However, given the multiversal elements of the films, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to have a cameo in the former and a large role in the latter.
The X-Men Make Their Avengers Debut
Channing Tatum’s Gambit isn’t the only X-Men member to return in the upcoming Avengers films. In the same rumor, Perez confirmed that both Beast and Professor X will appear in the duology. While the exact incarnations of the characters weren’t confirmed, it’s more likely than not that Kelsey Grammer will play the former and Sir Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as the latter.
It’s likely that more X-Men will appear in the upcoming Avengers films alongside them. There’s likely a reason Channing Tatum’s Gambit was the only mutant hero to play a main role in Deadpool and Wolverine outside of the titular duo. Marvel is trying to make these next two films the biggest they can possibly be, which means saving some of the best cards for the eleventh hour.
