Is Ioan Gruffudd finally on his way to the MCU? A recent batch from the rumor mill suggests that his version of Reed Richards will return in an upcoming Avengers film.
Readers beware! The following article contains spoilers for the finale of What if…? season 3.
While What If…? season 3 seemed to skate by almost entirely under the radar, the finale for the series had some insane implications for the MCU going forward. The final moments of the project revealed that The Watcher had interfered in multiple realities across the multiverse, saving variants of Reed Richards, Steven Rogers, and, perhaps the most powerful of all: Madisynn!
This led many fans to have hope that the Reed Richards variant mentioned in the finale could be one from films set outside of the MCU, potentially being teed up to cameo in the upcoming Avengers films. One poster specifically cited John Krasinski and Ioan Gruffudd as their hopes for which version could be saved. Scooper Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus weighed in on his speculation, putting their chips behind Gruffudd, though hedged their bets by stating that they don’t know if this particular rumor is true or not.
If the rumors are true, Ioan. But who knows? https://t.co/UvKSubebH1

Will Ioan Gruffudd Appear In The Avengers?
Alex Perez didn’t stop with one rumor suggesting Ioan Gruffudd may appear in a future Avengers film. The scooper suggested that The Council of Reeds is set to appear in a future MCU project, while also stating that all variants of Reed Richards from prior films ended up in The Void, the extradimensional trash dimension seen in both Deadpool and Wolverine and Loki.

Perhaps even more so than any other scoops, fans of Ioan Gruffudd’s Reed Richards should take this with a grain of salt, as even the source seems to cast some doubt on the rumor. However, given how big of a role the character plays in the original Secret Wars comics, it wouldn’t be a shock to see a version of the character play a significant role in the Avengers adaptation.
