Awkwafina Arrives In Australia To Start Filming Marvel’s ‘Shang-Chi’

Awkwafina recently posted that she’s arrived in Australia, most likely to start filming on Marvel’s Shang-Chi starring Simu Liu.

Although details are currently under wraps on the plot of Marvel’s Shang-Chi, Awkwafina has arrived in Australia to presumably begin filming the project helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Simu Liu in the lead role. It isn’t clear what Awkwafina’s Shang-Chi role is, although some fans have speculated she’ll be playing Fah Lo Suee, who was Shang-Chi’s sister in comics.

While there’s no official word on what Awkwafina’s Shang-Chi role is, the actress recently posted to her Instagram to confirm that she’s arrived in Sydney. Fans were quick to assume that she’s there to start filming Marvel’s Shang-Chi after Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the project would be shooting there. Introduced in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist who was raised in an isolated compound located in China and trained by his father Fu Manchu, a Chinese crimelord and immortal sorcerer who repeatedly attempted to conquer the world. When Shang-Chi was finally allowed to venture into the outside world to do his father’s bidding, he learned about his father’s evil ways and faked his own death before embarking on a mission to take down Fu Manchu’s criminal empire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by David Callaham, Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina and Tony Leung.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theaters on February 12, 2021.
