Will the Joker appear in The Batman Part II? Barry Keoghan speaks on his potential return as the iconic villain in the long-awaited sequel.
It’s hard to imagine that the only footage we’ve seen of Barry Keoghan as the Joker has been in a deleted scene. His character seems to engrained in the DNA of The Batman franchise that fans have just assumed that the actor will return to the role in The Batman Part II, potentially even playing the role of the main villain.
Barry Keoghan was asked about this possibility in a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Specifically, the actor was asked if he’d be interested in exploring the origins of his character in The Batman Part II. Keoghan was certainly positive about the idea, thought admitted he hadn’t yet been asked to return as the Joker in the sequel.
“I’d love to explore, and given that opportunity, really dive into it,” Keoghan explained. “But I’ve not been contacted.”
Will Barry Keoghan Return In The Batman Part II?
This news isn’t as doom and gloom as it may come off to fans less familiar with the film industry. Matt Reeves is still actively working on the script for The Batman Part II. Even though the general plot for the project seems to be locked thanks to the ending of The Penguin, the film has yet to even make it into pre-production. It doesn’t make sense for Barry Keoghan to be asked to return as Joker when the studio doesn’t even know where, when, or for how long the project will film.
Then again, it’s possible that Barry Keoghan gets recast as the Joker in The Batman Part II. With his main scene deleted, the only tether suggesting his return is a voice cameo from off-screen, something that can easily be replicated by another actor. Though given Keoghan’s raised pedigree in recent years, it’s more likely than not he at least makes a cameo as the Clown Prince of Crime in the next film.
