Bad Times at El Royale star Jon Hamm recently opened up about his favorite Batman stories, one of which is the iconic Flash-centric DC event Flashpoint, which featured Thomas Wayne as Batman instead of Bruce.
Flashpoint is one of the most iconic and beloved DC events in the last decade, even earning an animated adaptation a few years ago titled The Flashpoint Paradox. It was also rumored for a long time to be the inspiration for the upcoming Flash solo movie. In the timeline-warping DC story, the timeline had been shifted in a way that resulted in Bruce Wayne’s death as a young boy instead of his parents. His mother would go on to become the Joker and his father, Thomas Wayne, went on to become a new version of Batman.
Jon Hamm is one of those actors whose name gets thrown around amongst fans for numerous roles in the DC an Marvel universes. Hamm was once rumored to be playing Superman before Henry Cavill eventually earned the role in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Then, when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was announced his name was being thrown around for playing the more caped crusader but of course that ended with Ben Affleck getting the role. Now that Affleck’s future as Batman seems to be in question now that he’s focusing on improving his health and personal life, Hamm’s name has been getting thrown around again the play the role.
While sitting down recently to discuss his upcoming film Bad Times at El Royale, Hamm opened up about some of his favorite Batman stories.
“I like the Dark Knight stories, the Frank Miller limited series that they had back in the [’80s]. I like the Flashpoint timeline. It was a Flash kind of derivative of Batman, where he changes history and Bruce Wayne dies and his father becomes Batman. It’s very different.”
Hamm went on to praise the whole DC universe and its long legacy.
“I love the whole universe. I think it’s a fascinating character and a really fun — there’s a reason that that story has kind of kept people’s imaginations going for some time. And mine.”
