‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Writer Martin Pasko Passes Away At 65

Batman: The Animated Series Martin Pasko has passed away at the age of 65 due to natural causes.

Martin Pasko began his long and prolific career writing with DC in the 1970’s, when he became a writer for Superman comics. Pasko later transitioned into writing for television on both the live-action and animated front. Pasko’s most popular and beloved work came from Batman: The Animated Series, which was heavily influenced by the Tim Burton Batman films. Batman: The Animated Series is considered by many to be one of the strongest and most authentic pieces of work focusing on the Caped Crusader. In fact, Pasko won an Emmy for his writing on the hit animated series.

The Batman: The Animated Series writer’s longtime friend Alan Brennert took to Facebook on Monday afternoon to reveal that his friend has passed away due to natural causes. The heartfelt Facebook post highlighted Martin Pasko’s lengthy and diverse career in the entertainment industry as well as the first letter he received from the late writer. Former DC Comics President Paul Levitz also took to Facebook to eulogize his friend and colleague.

Some of Martin Pasko’s other highlights in the geek sphere include co-writing Batman: Mask of the Phanstasm, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. Pasko also penned some scripts for the hit series Roseanne and the ’80s revival of The Twilight Zone. While his work spanned generations and mediums, the writer will be best remembered for helping Batman: The Animated Series become an absolute juggernaut.

Decades later, the series is still remembered for its nuanced writing, colorful animation, and phenomenal voice acting. To this day, the series continues to inspire both filmmakers and artists and will be even receiving a tie-in comic which recently hit shelves. Here’s to hoping Martin Pasko’s legacy continues to endure and inspire another generation of Batman fans!
