Does Ben Affleck regret playing Daredevil? The actor reflects on his time as the Man Without Fear in a time before the MCU changed the game.
While most people know Ben Affleck for his tenure as Batman, that was far from the first superhero role he took up. Infamously, Affleck took on the role of Daredevil way back in 2003. While this was the project that first introduced Iron Man director Jon Favreau to the Marvel universe, leading to the creation of the MCU, the film itself has been lost in the bin of mediocre superhero projects birthed at the turn of the century.
However, it seems as though the project wasn’t without its merit to Ben Affleck. The actor recently reflected on his experience of filming Daredevil with GQ. He revealed that, even if it didn’t serve as the perfect adaptation prior to the MCU, he absolutely loved the experience he had with his fellow actors and the comic books that the property was based on.
“I love the comic book. I loved working with [Michael Clarke] Duncan, and Colin [Farrell], and Jen Garner. It wasn’t the adaptation that, ultimately, I thought wasn’t the best version of what it could have been, and that was disappointing.”
Will Ben Affleck Return As Daredevil?
A few years ago, one would call it delusional to even think that Ben Affleck could return as Daredevil in the MCU. The actor has been very vocal about stepping away from the world of superheroes following his tenure as Batman, and fans never had much of a demand for the character to reappear before now.
However, given how much Ben Affleck seems to care about Daredevil, and the fact that the MCU is setting up for its biggest crossover event of all time, now would be the perfect time for him to pick back up the mantle of the Man Without Fear. And given he’s working with Jon Bernthal on The Accountant 2, the actor behind the MCU’s Punisher, there may even be a birdie whispering in his ear tempting him to put back on the spandex.
