Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan showed her support to Suicide Squad director David Ayer on Twitter.

Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey debuted to critical acclaim earlier this year, with considerable praise being thrown towards Yan’s direction and Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn. Unfortunately, the film wasn’t the commercial darling that Warner Bros. hoped for. Unlike Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad wasn’t the critical darling that many were hoping it would be. As time went on, it become abundantly clear that David Ayer was forced to make changes to the film, resulting in a film that was, by all accounts, disappointing. With Yan officially part of the DC Extended Universe, she came to the support of fellow director David Ayer, who was responsible for delivering Suicide Squad.

Responding to a tweet in which David Ayer highlighted a change he had to make to Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan came to support her fellow DC Extended Universe director. In his tweet, Ayer suggests that he had to reshot a key Jared Leto Joker scene because it was “too dark”.

Cathy Yan is implying that she’s felt the same feeling that David Ayer has felt, which is having one’s vision diluted. We’re not exactly sure if Yan is pointing out if she felt the mutual feeling on Birds of Prey or another project of hers but it’s certainly eye opening. At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see if Yan has more to say about how she can relate to Ayer.

Here is the official synopsis for Birds of Prey:

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s future as Huntress and Birds of Prey and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more great video content.
