Is T’Challa actually being recast? Marvel producer Nate Moore speaks on the recent rumor of a new actor Black Panther being courted for the MCU.

One of the biggest news stories to hit the Marvel fandom in recent weeks is the idea that the studio is looking for actors to recast T’Challa in the MCU. A number of high profile names were reported to have been approached to play the iconic Black Panther, including John David Washington and Lanterns star Aaron Pierre.

This rumor has finally been addressed by Marvel itself. Nate Moore, who has served as a producer on multiple projects in the MCU, was recently asked if the studio was looking to recast T’Challa in the near future. While Moore didn’t deny the idea directly, he did say that almost every rumor about the next Black Panther film is false due to the project not entering active development with Ryan Coogler until later this year.

“The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year. We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].”

Who Will Play T’Challa In The MCU?

Given how much momentum there is behind this rumor, it’s more than possible that the character does actually get recast in an upcoming project. While it would certainly be a monumental task to find an actor able to replace Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Marvel seemingly has quite a few impressive leads lined up for the opportunity.

As stated before, John David Washington and Aaron Pierre were reportedly approached for the role, along with Kelvin Harrison Jr. Damson Idris was also said to be up for the role of Black Panther, but the actor later deconfirmed that he was in talks with Marvel to join the MCU. It’s also possible that a fresh face is picked as the right choice to play T’Challa, especially given an actor may not want to risk their reputation contending with Chadwick Boseman’s legendary performance.
