‘Blade’ Writer Breaks Silence On Stalled MCU Reboot

Is Blade ever going to be made?

Why is the Blade reboot taking so long? David S. Goyer, who served as the writer for the original Wesley Snipes film, gives his thoughts on the MCU’s infamous project.

Blade will go down as the cursed child of the MCU. The original films by David S. Goyer and Stephen Norrington still hold up as some of the best superhero projects to date. So when a reboot was announced with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali attached, expectations were sky high. However, half a decade of false starts, crew changes, and radio silence have left fans exhausted at the prospect.

David S. Goyer recently spoke on the troubles of the Blade reboot during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The writer admitted that he was confused about how the MCU hasn’t managed to bring the project to light, especially with someone like Mahershala Ali attached to star as the titular day walker.

“I don’t [ get it] either, because in my mind, I think Blade is a relatively simple story. It’s not complicated. I always think when you embark on a movie like this, you have to distil down what the promise of the movie [is].”

“The promise of a new Blade is that it should have insane ass kicking, it should be pretty scary, might be R-Rated, and it should not be complicated. It should be a simple story. So, I don’t know why it’s been so hard. I have no idea why. I’m baffled. Mahershala Ali is an amazing actor. I don’t know why.”

Will David S. Hoyer Write The Blade Reboot?

With how hard it has been to nail a script down for the Blade reboot, some fans have suggested that David S. Goyer pick up the pen one final time to introduce the character in the MCU. While the writer’s comments about Mahershala Ali may give some fans hope of his return to the franchise, it doesn’t seem Goyer is too keen on writing the project once more.

“I’m pretty much still not in a comic book place…look, I go back and forth. All the time on social media, I see, ‘Oh, they should have Goyer do the new Blade.’ Part of me thinks it would be fun, but part of me thinks I did, so far, the definitive Blade, and [it would be] a mistake.”

Given how much of a nightmare the production of the reboot has been, it likely isn’t a wise horse to hitch one’s cart to. Though even without David S. Goyer as a writer, it’s likely that Marvel will be kicking development on Blade into high gear as the MCU leaves the Multiverse Saga, with the lower stakes allowing Mahershala Ali plenty of space to be one of the franchise’s major stars.

Blade is no longer on the production schedule for the MCU. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
