Despite the movie’s low opening, Blue Beetle continues to hold its own at the box office. The DC Universe film has dropped less than The Flash in its 3rd week and outgrossed Shazam! Fury of the Gods domestically.
Blue Beetle just finished up its third weekend at the box office with a domestic gross of $7.3 million. This outpaces both The Flash and Shazam! Fury of the Gods in their third weekends, grossing $5.2 million and $4.6 million respectively. Blue Beetle‘s domestic box office has also passed $58 million, beating out Shazam! Fury of the Gods which ended its run with just over $57 million.
With Blue Beetle now eyeing a $70-75 million run at the box office, it’s not likely that the film will recoup its budget, but it will certainly perform better than expected. The DC Universe has suffered a string of flops recently, and it’s unclear how or if the studio will recover heading into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Fans simply have to hope that James Gunn and Peter Safran can salvage the sinking ship before its too late.
