The arrest of Marvel actor Jonathan Majors has proven to be a controversial topic across the internet. Fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor and Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie gives his own thoughts about the situation.
Earlier this year, Kang actor Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City following allegations of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in the back of a cab. While the actor has maintained his innocence, the case continues to make its way through the courts. During a recent interview to promote his upcoming Twisted Metal series on Peacock, Anthony Mackie commented on the evolving situation, saying that everyone in America is innocent until proven guilty.
“That’s one of the staples of this country. Nothing has been proven about this dude. Nothing. So everyone is innocent until proven guilty,” He told Inverse. “That’s all I can say. It’s crazy where we are as a society. But as a country, everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”
Anthony Mackie is the only MCU actor so far to comment on the ongoing case against Jonathan Majors. The actor is due to reappear in court on August 3rd to dispute the claims made against him. Majors has also fired his own complaint against his accuser, claiming that she had assaulted him on multiple occasions.
Jonathan Majors’ Future as Kang in Doubt Amid Abuse Claims
Jonathan Majors is set to reprise his role as Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is slated to hit theaters in May 2025, with the 33-year-old actor expected to earn a hefty $20 million payday, including back-end compensation. He is also signed on to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, at least for the time being.
Disney, which owns Marvel Studios, is said to be closely monitoring the situation and has time to make a decision before production begins on The Kang Dynasty. However, Variety has revealed that the alleged victim in the Manhattan incident also worked on Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, in which Jonathan Majors had a prominent role. This could potentially create a conflict for the studio as it decides how to handle the situation.
As the situation with Jonathan Majors unfolds, it remains to be seen how Disney will respond. While his attorney maintains his innocence, the cooperation of multiple alleged victims with the district attorney’s office suggests that the case is far from over.
