Is Captain America: Brave New World really as bad as the critics say? The film has officially gotten the worst CinemaScore in the history of the MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World has been getting absolutely pummeled heading up to its release. Putting aside all of the controversies surrounding casting and reshoots, the critics have not been kind to the latest installment in the MCU. The project briefly broke records as the lowest scoring project in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes, only barely rebounding in days since to be the third worst reviewed by critics.
Things aren’t looking any better for the film after opening weekend. The official CinemaScore for Captain America: Brave New World has hit the net, landing at a B-. While that score may not seem bad, and truly isn’t in the grand scheme of things, it is the lowest score that the MCU has ever gotten for any film it has released. This includes massive and controversial bombs like Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Is Captain America: Brave New World Really The Worst MCU Film?
The reviews by critics certainly paint a bleak picture of Captain America: Brave New World. However, it’s not the whole story. The project is still doing well with audiences, as do most MCU films. It’s currently sitting at an 80% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, a whole 5% above the 75% Captain America: The First Avenger is sitting at on the site.
The film is also killing it at the box office. Despite the reviews, Captain America: Brave New World is projected to make around $100 million domestically once the box office closes tonight, with the film already scoring an impressive $192.4 million when looking at the domestic box office. This is already nearing, if not surpassing, the budget reported for the film, potentially teeing the film up to be another box office smash for the MCU.
