Are the Eternals gone for good? Will the Inhumans ever return? Kevin Feige speaks on the fate of some of the less popular super teams in the MCU.
While the MCU has had a rather rough phase 4 and 5, perhaps no project has been lambasted more than Eternals. The film was both a critical and financial flop, despite developing a cult following among fans. While it’s likely the film made its money back, its disappointing box office left many fans wondering if Kevin Feige had any intentions on bringing the team back in the future.
The MCU helmer was asked this very question during his recent appearance at D23 Brazil. When confronted on if there’s any chance the Eternals could make their return, Kevin Feige played his usual card of not giving a firm answer. However, he did provide some hope for key members of the team to pop up in future projects.
“[We’re] very proud of that movie,” Feige explained in a recent chat with CinePOP. “That cast was incredible. We’d be lucky to get any of them back at some point.”
Will The Inhumans Return In The MCU?
Eternals aren’t the only alien team that have gotten a rough deal in the MCU. The Inhumans were infamously set up as the replacements for the X-Men, with Marvel’s editorial staff killing off almost every mutant in the comics to align with their upcoming ABC TV show. When that flopped, many fans were convinced that there was no chance for Kevin Feige to bring them into the MCU proper.
With Ms. Marvel, the most famous of the Inhumans, not being retconned into a mutant in the MCU, those fears seemed to be solidified. However, as always, Kevin Feige isn’t so quick to write the team off. When asked about the Terrigen-based team, Marvel’s president simply said “We’ll see where, if, and when, they return.”
Of course, this could mean anything when it comes to the MCU. Unlike the Eternals who at least got some lip service from Kevin Feige, this could mean the Inhumans’ return could be around the corner, or they’ll be shunted to the dark corners of the Marvel Universe alongside Harley Keener and Deathlok. Though at the very least, fans of the teams can rest easy knowing that Feige at least has the characters on his mind.
