Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for Sabra! A spin-off for Shiri Haas’ heroine is the center of a new rumor for Captain America: Brave New World.
Given how much controversy Marvel Studios has stirred up during the production of Captain America: Brave New World, it’s easy to forget that one of the largest points of outrage early on stemmed from the reveal that Shiri Haas would be playing the Israeli mutant Sabra. Like most elements of the film, the already touchy subject was inflamed due to an unlucky circumstance of geopolitical circumstances and a momentum of outrage against the film.
Luckily, Marvel Studios seemed to avoid some of the most controversial elements of Sabra when developing Captain America: Brave New World. Shiri Haas is playing a character almost indistinguishable from the comics, with her character reportedly being a former Black Widow from Israel that now serves as a high-ranking official in the US government. If reports are to be believed, the character’s superhero name isn’t even uttered in the film.
Shiri Haas Reportedly Lands A Spin-Off As Sabra
Yet it seems, despite the controversies, Marvel Studios may be moving forward with their plans for the character. A new rumor by scooper MyTimeToShineHello suggests that the studio is developing a spin-off for Shiri Haas’ Sabra following the events of Captain America: Brave New World. Given the character is a mutant, it’s likely these plans will fit into their upcoming Mutant Saga after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end.
Sabra has had a rather sparse history in the comics, only appearing in just north of 300 issues. Perhaps her most prominent role as assisting the X-Men in taking down Bastion during Operation: Zero Tolerance. A spin-off for Shiri Haas character following Captain America: Brave New World could set up this iconic storyline about the Prime Sentinels in the MCU.
