Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah has revealed when production for the upcoming film will begin.
Last year it was revealed that a new Captain America film was in development. Director Julius Onah was eventually signed on as the director but news on the film had been hard to come by until recently. During this year’s D23 event, several new details emerged including that one of the main villains would be Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader. Now we know when production for the upcoming film will begin.
The Director Reveals When
While speaking to Collider, Julius Onah revealed that production for Captain America: New World would begin at the start of 2023. In addition, the director also revealed that they were well into preproduction for the film and were excited to dig into it:
“We’re already quite busy, putting everything together. As you know with these films, there are so many elements, between the cast and the script and the effects and the stunts. It’s really exciting to be really diving deep into it.”
The upcoming film will focus on Anthony Mackie’s Captain America as he fully embraces the mantle after the events of the Disney Plus series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here is the synopsis for the series:
Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”
Directed by Kari Skogland from scripts written by showrunner Malcolm Spellman and Derek Kolstad, the series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent. Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly also appear.
The Falcon and the Winter Solider is currently available to stream on Disney Plus while Captain America: New World Order will release in theaters on May 3, 2024.
