Channing Tatum Teases He May Not Return As Gambit In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Is Gambit gone for good?

Is Gambit gone for good? Channing Tatum suggests that, even though he’ll be sitting in on Avengers: Doomsday, he may not return as the character fans expect.

Channing Tatum became a Marvel superstar over night. After literal decades of trying to get a Gambit film greenlit, the actor made his debut as the Smooth Talking Cajun in Deadpool and Wolverine to almost universal acclaim. The question quickly changed from “Should he even play Gambit” to “When will he play Gambit again?”, with many fans focusing their eyes on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars as potential venues for his return.

This is why many fans were ecstatic when the long, long list of chairs revealed that Channing Tatum had joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. To many, this was confirmation that Gambit would be making his grand return to the silver screen. However, it may not be that simple. According to Tatum, the only thing that chair guarantees is that he has a seat to watch the movie.

“Personally, all I was guaranteed was a chair,” Tatum told Extra in a recent interview. “They said that I have a chair, and I can at least watch the movie from the chair. You know, and it was just my name, it wasn’t exactly Gambit. So, I work in the world of just like, of binary yes or no’s, and I’ve only been guaranteed so far a chair to watch the movie in, so that’s where I’m at.”

Will Gambit Be In Avengers: Doomsday?

This is very obviously a joke by Channing Tatum reflecting his years of developing a Gambit movie without a firm “yes or no” on production. There’s little world where Tatum has joined the cast of Avengers: Doomsday and won’t make his return as Gambit, one way or another. It’s just a fun little joke to try to keep the hype alive.

However, if Channing Tatum wasn’t to return as Gambit, who could he play? While Avengers: Doomsday won’t likely introduce many new characters, it’s possible Tatum could play another variant of an existing hero. Some popular picks include Party Thor and Ben Reily’s Spider-Man. It could also be a good gag for him to play The Beyonder in an equally incomprehensible accent to Gambit, even if the latter is likely his role.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
