Marvel star Charlie Cox recently spoke about his return to the role of Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again, sharing his thoughts on how the character will fit into the wider MCU.
Charlie Cox first appeared as Matt Murdock in the Netflix series Daredevil. While there was some uncertainty over whether Marvel’s Netflix series took place in the same continuity as the rest of the MCU, that seems to have been laid to rest with the character’s appearance in a string of Marvel projects.
Following a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and an upcoming appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Charlie Cox will once again lead his own Marvel series when Daredevil: Born Again arrives on Disney Plus.
Born Again For The MCU
Following his appearance at D23, Charlie Cox spoke to Extra about what fans can expect from Daredevil: Born Again and his future role in the MCU.
The actor revealed he is yet to see a script for Born Again, so his comments on the upcoming Daredevil revival are purely speculative. However, it sounds like the series will be a new direction for the character rather than a continuation of the stories seen in the Netflix series.
Talking about how Born Again would relate to the previous Daredevil series, Charlie Cox said:
“I don’t know anything. I haven’t seen a script… My feeling is, based on the title ‘Born Again,’ I think that the sense is it is a new beginning, it is going to be different, it is going to be totally different. It is going to be new stories, and new ideas.”
While the iteration of Matt Murdock seen in Daredevil: Born Again – as well as She-Hulk and No Way Home – is likely to be canonically the same iteration as seen in the Netflix series, it sounds like the Disney Plus show will be drawing a line under that series’ storylines to start from square one.
Cox was also asked whether Marvel fans could expect to see Daredevil joining forces with the Avengers at some point in the future. The actor joked “I see him as being a key member of the Avengers, imperative to everything that they do.”
Charlie Cox can next be seen as Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Here is the show’s synopsis:
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.”
Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
New episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law premiere every Thursday on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news coming out of D23, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
