Chris Evans insists Marvel makes good movies!

Does the Marvel Cinematic Universe get too much hate? Captain America star Chris Evans spoke on how he thinks Marvel deserves more credit than it gets in the public discourse.

In the last few years, it’s been in vogue to roast the MCU, ignoring its major successes and focusing only on the projects that struggle at the box office. Now, even stars like Chris Evans are throwing their names in the ring to defend the studio. During a recent appearance at Emerald City Comic Con, Evans revealed he thinks Marvel should get more credit for the good films they put out.

“Comic book movies in general, for whatever reason, don’t always get the credit I think they deserve,” Evans explained. “They are these big, giant movies. There’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen. But the empirical evidence is in: They are not easy to make. If it was easier, there would be a lot more good ones. I’m not throwing shade! I’ve been a part of a few that missed. It happens.”

“Making a movie is tough. More cooks in the kitchen doesn’t make it easier. I don’t want to highlight specific films in the Marvel catalogue but some of them are phenomenal. Like independently, objectively great movies, and I think they deserve a little more credit.”

It’s important to note that, for as loud as the discourse about the MCU has been online, fans are still showing up in theaters. While not every Marvel movie these days makes back their massive budget (especially during the strikes), even films like Thor: Love & Thunder score high with audiences on sites like Rotten Tomatoes. So it seems that, even in the worst of times, audiences are still on Chris Evans’ side.
