Sydney Sweeney Roasts ‘Madame Web’ During SNL Appearance

You can't see me!

It seems not even the stars of Madame Web can hold back their jokes! Sydney Sweeney took a jab at the Spider-Man flop during a recent appearance on SNL.

Sydney Sweeney made her Saturday Night Live debut this past weekend. While Sweeney’s SNL episode has so far been well received, the same can’t be said for the films in her opening monologue. Despite Madame Web being her newest project to promote, Sweeney tried to downplay the Spider-Man flop, insisting that nobody saw her in the film.

“You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria. You definitely did not see me in Madame Web,” Sweeney said. “But I do have a new film coming out called ‘Immaculate.’ I play a nun, so it’s perfect casting. But tonight, I’m excited for everyone to get to know the real me. I feel like people only see me as the girl on TV who screams, cries, and has sex. Sometimes it’s all three at the same time.”

It’s a shame that even the stars of Madame Web have turned on the movie, especially given how excited Sydney Sweeney had been to join the Marvel universe the last few years. However, the film just continued the cycle of the previous Sony-produced Spider-Man spin-off movies. With rumors claiming that Madame Web flopped so hard that Sony Pictures had to change its course with Marvel content, here’s hoping we’ll see an emphasis on quality rather than quantity going forward.

Who else is attached to the Madame Web movie?

Madame Web is an upcoming superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who made her first appearance in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #210. The movie is being directed by S.J. Clarkson, a British television director who has previously worked on episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Defenders.

The Madame Web movie is expected to explore the origin story of the titular character and her first journey in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. Its cast also includes Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet.

Madame Web hit theaters on February 14, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
