Disney and Pixar have released a new trailer for the upcoming Toy Story spin-off Lightyear, starring Chris Evans.
Lightyear tells the origin story of the Buzz Lightyear character, who serves as the basis for the toy owned by Andy in Toy Story. While official details on the film and its connection to the Toy Story franchise have so far been scarce, it appears likely that it is a film within a film – i.e. a film the characters in Toy Story could watch, presumably before buying tie-in merchandise that features the vocal talents of Tim Allen. As this is a different Buzz Lightyear from the one seen in Toy Story, the role has been recast with Marvel’s Captain America actor, Chris Evans.
The new Lightyear trailer offers a better look at Chris Evans’ Buzz in action alongside his fellow Star Command astronauts, as well as offering up more plot details. The film will apparently see Buzz traveling 62 years into the future as he ventures to a distant planet, coming into conflict with alien invaders – most likely led by the evil Emperor Zurg, who is also briefly glimpsed in the trailer. Check it out below:
The trailer also reveals much of the film’s supporting cast, including Uzo Aduba as Buzz’s Star Command ally, Alisha Hawthorne, and Keke Palmer as Alisha’s granddaughter from the future, Izzy. Taika Waititi’s Mo Morrison and Dale Soules’ Darby Steel also appear, alongside Sox, Buzz’s robotic cat companion.
Lightyear blasts off into theaters on June 17, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Chris Evans’ upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
