Chris Pratt has addressed the rumors that he had been cast as Indiana Jones for the fifth installment of the franchise.
Back in 2014, Chris Pratt took on the role of Star-Lord for Guardians of the Galaxy and the actor’s film career took off. Soon after, he took the lead role in Jurassic World and has remained a household name ever since. At one point, however, Chris Pratt was rumored to also be joining the Indiana Jones franchise.
When Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, it began work on reviving the studio’s IPs. This obviously included Star Wars but eventually branched out to Willow and Indiana Jones. As the film went into development, there were rumors that Chris Pratt would be taking over the role of Indiana Jones from Harrison Ford. Ultimately, this was decided against, but there has always been some question as to whether or not this decision was ever seriously considered.
Who Is Steven Spielberg?
In a recent interview with Happy, Sad, Confused, Chris Pratt finally discussed the Indiana Jones casting rumors, firmly stating that they were untrue after joking a bit:
“I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who? No, aren’t they doing Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford? All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?
No, that’s not anything that is real, I think people are capable of making mistakes, even if they’re Deadline.”
Full plot details for the franchise’s next installment, Indiana Jones 5, are being kept under wraps, but Harrison Ford has mentioned that the film will see new developments in the adventurer’s life and relationships in addition to resolving part of his history. The film will mark Lucasfilm’s first entry in the franchise while under the Disney umbrella.
