Chris Pratt’s latest blockbuster Jurassic World Dominion received its audience CinemaScore grade.
Universal Pictures’ latest blockbuster, Jurassic World Dominion has finally hit theaters, and although critics are not responding so well to the film, the box office numbers are looking to be yet another impressive showing for the franchise, which stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
As the film has now stomped its way into theaters, we now have its official CinemaScore audience grade. Although the film has received a franchise low on Rotten Tomatoes, the newest entry in the Jurassic World franchise has received an A- grade from opening night audiences.
Nostalgia still reigns.
With the recent box office success of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick and now with Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World Dominion, it’s clear that audiences are still flocking into theaters for not just the big event tentpole releases, but specifically from franchises that play into one’s nostalgia. The original Jurassic Park opened in theaters in 1993, and became the highest-grossing film of all-time when it was initially released.
The nostalgia factor certainly played a factor in why Jurassic World took audiences by storm in 2015, and it’s clear that the mid-to-late 2010’s blockbuster landscape was defined by the “legacy-quel.” Given that audiences seem to respond to Chris Pratt’s third dinosaur adventure more positively than critics have, it will be interesting to see how it holds in the coming weeks at the box office, especially with some stiff competition.
Here is the synopsis for the film:
This summer, experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by Oscar®-winner Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill in Jurassic World Dominion, a bold, timely and breathtaking new adventure that spans the globe. From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures. Jurassic World Dominion, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, propels the more than $5 billion franchise into daring, uncharted territory, featuring never-seen dinosaurs, breakneck action and astonishing new visual effects.
Directed by Colin Trevorrow from a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, the film stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Mamadou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, Daniella Pineda, Campbell Scott, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy, DeWanda Wise, and BD Wong.
