Speaking about his upcoming The Batman spinoff series, the film’s Penguin actor Colin Farrell recently confirmed when the HBO Max series is likely to enter production.

Around the time of The Batman‘s release in March this year, it was revealed that Colin Farrell’s scene-stealing Penguin would be getting his own spinoff series. Likened to Scarface, the series is set to chart the character’s rise to power following the chaos Gotham endured in The Batman.

While filming is not starting imminently, it sounds like Colin Farrell is ready to go and has a schedule in place for the HBO Max spinoff.

‘The Penguin’ Enters Production Next Year

It sounds like The Penguin will be entering production a little later than previously thought, apparently due to Colin Farrell’s other commitments, but filming is set to begin early next year.

Talking about the Batman spinoff series in a recent interview, Colin Farrell was asked about when filming begins. The actor confirmed production is due to start in February 2023 and went on to talk about the scripts for the upcoming series.

“There’s something I’m going to do here in LA between now & Christmas. I think next February will start.”

Revealing he had read the first script for The Penguin, Colin Farrell offered an encouraging reaction. It sounds like the actor is looking forward to getting back to work as Oswald Cobblepot, even if it comes with some hefty prosthetics work:

“I read the first script of what I think will be six or eight hours. It was so tasty. I was just kind of: F***, nice.”

Colin Farrell will also be serving as a producer on The Penguin, alongside The Batman‘s director Matt Reeves and the film’s producer Dylan Clark. Lauren LeFranc (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is overseeing The Penguin as writer and showrunner.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.

The film is now streaming exclusively on HBO Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding The Batman’s on-screen future, as well as Colin Farrell’s upcoming series The Penguin, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
