Is Sgt. Rock officially dead in the water? Colin Farrell gives his insight on whether or not the upcoming DC Universe project has been cancelled.
One of the most interesting projects slated for the DC Universe was undoubtedly Sgt. Rock. The project was set to be helmed by auteur direction Luca Guadagnino; focusing on Easy Company trying to rescue the spear that killed Jesus from the clutches of the Nazi army. While Daniel Craig was originally set to star, the role soon went to Colin Farrell.
Things started looking rocky for Sgt. Rock when the film missed its intended shooting window for this year, being delayed into next summer. While originally it was said that this was just to not film in Europe during the winter, it seems as though trouble was brewing for the DC Universe project. It would soon come out from James Gunn that the script just “wasn’t working”, with Luca Guadagnino seemingly departing from the project.
Is Sgt. Rock Cancelled?
Aside from these small snippets of information, there hasn’t been many updates on Sgt. Rock. Speculation originally suggested that the project may film next summer, but now everything seems up in the air. When asked about the current status of the DC Universe project, even the star Colin Farrell wasn’t too sure about its future.
“God, that was a fantastic script. I wonder what’s happening with it,” Farrell remarked on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I know nothing about it, brother. I was going to do it with Luca. We spoke about it a couple of times and had some really nice chats. I have no idea where it is now, but it should be made. It’s really, really good. There’s some wonderful stuff in it.”
It’s interesting to hear that at least Colin Farrell enjoyed the script that was originally penned for Sgt. Rock. There’s still plenty of time for the movie to get mad, especially as the DC Universe continues to diversify the content it’s hoping to put out. Though whether or not it’ll come to light with Luca Guadagnino is certainly another story.
