Is Sgt. Rock back from the dead? A new report suggests that the claims of the DC Universe film being cancelled may be greatly exaggerated.
DC Universe fans have had a roller coaster of a time with Sgt. Rock. The film was seemingly confirmed out of nowhere, with the cult-favorite wartime hero not being on anyone’s radar to be adapted into live-action anytime soon — especially not from esteemed director Luca Guadagnino and former James Bond actor Daniel Craig. This shock actually resulted in quite a bit of hype for the film, seeing it as a potential underdog in the superhero landscape.
However, just as fast as the hype began, it came crashing down. The project swapped out Daniel Craig with Colin Farrell, landing him his second DC Universe role after The Penguin. This led to radio silence in what many expected to be the time for news about Sgt. Rock. This all culminated with a report at the end of April suggesting that the film had ultimately been cancelled for unknown reasons.
Is Sgt. Rock Cancelled?
Yet there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Sgt. Rock fans. A report by Deadline reveals that the project hasn’t been cancelled… for now. Rather, the DC Universe film was initially set to film in August of this year. However, due to their filming window pushing into the winter months, those in charge made the call to delay production until next summer in order to ensure favorable conditions when filming outside scenes.
While it’s a shame that Sgt. Rock has been pushed back almost an entire year, now likely eyeing a release deep into 2027, the delay is likely for the best. The DC Universe is in desperate need of hits as it starts off what may be the riskiest franchise play in cinematic history. The fact that the project isn’t cancelled despite such an enormous setback suggests that the studio is likely confident in the movie to make its money back, even if it may take a while to get things right.
Production on Sgt. Rock is currently halted. The film is eyeing a potential filming window of Summer 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
