Does Oz Cobb wear The Penguin name with pride? Colin Farrell reveals a deleted scene from the recent season finale.
The Penguin turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the fall TV season. However, it also turned out to be a massive departure from the comics, revealing Colin Farrell’s take on Oz Cobb to be almost unrecognizable from the original supervillain. However, it seems a deleted scene from the finale originally did more to bridge the two worlds.
In the finale of The Penguin, Oz Cobb took his first steps in transforming to the business magnate mobster fans know and love. He donned his iconic suit and even a top hat. However, apparently a deleted scene took this idea a step further, with Colin Farrell revealing they originally had Oz call himself The Penguin outright in one of the show’s final moments.
“There was a scene in the eighth episode where a kid says, ‘you’re the Penguin, aren’t you,'” Farrell explained to Cinemablend. “And then something about his mother. And then I say to him at the end of the scene, ‘you tell your mom the Penguin takes care of his own.'”
Colin Farrell’s Future As The Penguin
Following the finale of The Penguin, it was confirmed that Colin Farrell is set to return as Oz Cobb in both The Batman Part II and the third film in Matt Reeves’ planned trilogy. There are also early talks for the actor to return and star in another season of The Penguin, though it’s not clear at this time if Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc have made a decision.
It would certainly be interesting to see Colin Farrell continue his journey as Oz Cobb in a potential second season. The finale of The Penguin wrapped everything up in a neat bow, tying up all loose ends and setting things up for a new future in Gotham. Though perhaps the lack of this deleted scene proves that Oz’s transformation is far from over.
