One of Suicide Squad‘s biggest talking points both before and after release has been Jared Leto’s version of the Crown Prince of Crime. While some may have been disappointed with Joker’s limited screen time in Squad (including Leto himself), his role as a secondary character is another thing Ayer’s flick and the animated Arkham adventure have in common. This could be said to be even more true if some of those rumoured deleted scenes from Squad turn out to be true, particularly the one involving Joker showing up and attacking the squad just before the final battle. Both movies also feature the Joker crashing to his apparent death in a helicopter, though we all know the Joker wouldn’t go down without getting the last laugh.
One notable difference is that in Assault on Arkham, Joker is clearly the main villain of the film, whereas in Suicide Squad he is much more of a chaotic neutral style character, with Enchantress and her brother Incubus being the movie’s big bads (though there is an argument to be made for Squad‘s villain being Waller).
