‘Creature Commandos’ Won’t Be Delayed By Strikes Confirms James Gunn

The weird war wages on!

Creature Commandos

Creature Commandos is a highly-anticipated animated series for the DC Universe. With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continuing on due to studios refusing to pay their artists, James Gunn assures fans that this particular DC Studios show won’t be delayed.

As the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes continue on, it seems as though every project fans have been excited about has been delayed due to the AMPTP refusing to come to an agreement with their actors and writers. Luckily, it seems as though one DC Universe project has avoided this fate. When asked when fans would get more news on Creature Commandos, James Gunn promised surprises coming down the pipeline, as animation is separate from the ongoing strikes:

Creature Commandos’ production has not been impacted by the strike

According to the National Association of Voice Actors (or NAVA), SAG-AFTRA members are allowed to voice act as long as the production is not a feature-length animated film, trailer, narration, or voice replacement/matching. This allows Creature Commandos to forge on entirely unimpeded at DC Studios. Though given the recent string of box office failures, fans can only hope James Gunn has a plan to save the DC Universe beyond the creepy, kooky, and altogether ooky.

Get Ready For A Weird War!

Creature Commandos is an upcoming animated series set to debut in 2024 for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s brand-new DC Universe. The show is set to feature the return of Sean Gunn’s Weasel from The Suicide Squad as Amanda Waller seeks to build a militia of monsters and outcasts. All 7 episodes for the show’s first season were written by Gunn.

Joining Sean Gunn’s Weasel in Creature Commandos is Frank Grillo as Rick Flagg Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg, as well as Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, and David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein. Sean Gunn will also be taking on the role of G.I. Robot in the series and will be joined by fellow The Suicide Squad alum Steve Agee, who is set to return as John Economos.
