A spin-off of Michael B. Jordan’s Creed films focusing on Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago and his son, Florian Munteanu’s Viktor Drago, is in the works at MGM with a script by Robert Lawton.

Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago was originally introduced to the Rocky franchise as the central antagonist in 1985’s Rocky IV. Lundgren reprised the role in 2018’s Creed II, in which Florian Munteanu played his son, Viktor Drago.

Details of the new spin-off movie are scarce, but it is being penned by Robert Lawton, whose spec script Becoming Rocky won a 2021 Nicholl Felowship.

Dolph Lundgren Returns As Drago

Doplh Lundgren had mentioned MGM were considering making a new Rocky spin-off, focusing on Ivan Drago, last year.

Writer Robert Lawton landed the job of scripting Drago after penning a spec script titled Becoming Rocky, about the making of 1976’s original Rocky. The spec script was one of 50 that received the 2021 Nicholl Fellowship. The writer’s subsequent pitch for Drago saw MGM hire him for the film.

Creed III is set for release this November, with Michael B. Jordan returning as Adonis Creed. The film will also see Jordan direct for the first time. The film will also star Jonathan Majors, who has recently appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to promote his role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new big bad, Kang the Conqueror.
