The former chairman and CCO of The Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, is set to join Warner Bros. Discovery as an advisor to CEO David Zaslav.

Following the completion of the merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery earlier this year, the new company has started a rigorous process of reorganization, setting out to reinvigorate their approach to film production.

Alan Horn’s appointment marks the latest development in Warner Bros. Discovery’s “transition period,” with the Hollywood veteran lending his expertise to the company as they establish their new strategy going forward.

Alan Horn’s Warner Bros. Return

In a memo, shared by The Wrap, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav refers to Alan Horn’s appointment as “a homecoming,” recalling Horn’s time as the COO of Warner Bros. early in his career.

Alan Horn’s last role in the film industry was as chief creative officer for The Walt Disney Studios, where he had previously served as chairman and co-chairman. In October last year, Horn announced his retirement from Disney, bringing a 50-year career in the entertainment industry to a close.

In the memo announcing Alan Horn’s appointment as a senior advisor for Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav said:

“Over the past six months, I have been fortunate to spend time with Alan. He has been generous and hugely helpful to me, and I’ve learned a ton about the business from our conversations. I could not be more excited to be able to continue to tap into his thinking, expertise and stellar instincts as we transition our film business and hone our motion picture strategy for the future. And I know Mike [De Luca] and Pam [Abdy] are equally excited to have Alan’s ear and to be able to benefit from his wealth of experience gained from such an illustrious track record.”

During his time with Disney, Alan Horn also oversaw the company’s acquisitions of Lucasfilm and Fox’s film studios, a move which saw Disney take control of major franchises such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and X-Men.

Warner Bros. recently hosted a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, with Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Black Adam emerging as the star of the show. Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming DC film:

Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
