Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is officially making his next MCU appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney Plus, where he will star opposite Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters.
Rumors had circulated for a while that Charlie Cox would be reprising the role of Matt Murdock in the series, as both Matt and Jennifer are lawyers as well as superheroes. While fans may have suspected Cox would make a courtroom appearance in She-Hulk, the latest trailer confirms he will not only be appearing, but will be suiting up as Daredevil.
Now that the cat’s out of the bag, Tatiana Maslany and She-Hulk head writer Jessica Gao have talked about Daredevil’s role in the series.
She-Hulk & Her Amazing Friends
Taking questions after Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, during which the She-Hulk trailer featuring Daredevil was revealed, Tatiana Maslany and Jessica Gao spoke a little more about his role.
Jessica Gao spoke to Collider about writing Daredevil into She-Hulk, saying she hadn’t expected to be able to use him. Charlie Cox’s version of the character initially appeared in a Netflix series and for a while it was unclear whether he would be considered canon to the main MCU. However, Spider-Man: No Way Home laid all doubts to rest when Cox made a cameo as Matt Murdock.
Speaking about bringing Daredevil into She-Hulk, Gao said:
“I don’t think we ever, in a million years, thought that we would be allowed to use them, because we didn’t know what the status was of the character. And then, I can’t remember how, we got wind that he was coming back and that it was Charlie Cox, and we were like, ‘Wait, does that I mean we can use him? Are we allowed?’ And when they told us yeah, I mean, we couldn’t believe it, we thought we were being pranked. We just kept writing him in, and we kept rolling with the story just thinking like, ‘Okay, any moment now they’re going to tell us we can’t use them. They made a mistake. They actually don’t have the rights.’ But it just kept [becoming] more and more real. And it was so hard to keep that secret!”
Speaking to ComicBook.com about the interactions between Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters and Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, Jessica Gao said their shared experience as both lawyers and superheroes was something that would drive their dynamic in the series:
“Well obviously, what Jen has in common with Matt Murdock is that they’re both lawyers but also, uniquely, they’re both lawyers who happen to be a superheroes, so they have that in common.”
Meanwhile, Tatiana Maslany offered up a few words on the relationship between the two characters, who will meet in live action for the first time in She-Hulk.
It sounds like viewers shouldn’t expect a typical superhero face-off between the two, as they will be on good terms with each other in the series. “We’re best friends,” Tatiana Maslany said of the characters’ relationship while talking to MTV News.
