Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will kick off Phase 5 of the MCU early next year and director Peyton Reed has teased the film is bringing some major cameos with it.

The MCU is growing. It is now less of a cinematic universe and more a cinematic multiverse, exploring multiple alternate realities in the ongoing Multiverse Saga. The Multiverse has already ushered in some major cameos in the form of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Man.

Now, it looks like more cameos are on the way, with Peyton Reed revealing Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp will encounter some familiar faces in the Quantum Realm during Quantumania.

Quantum Realm Cameos

Talking to Access alongside Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania director Peyton Reed teased a few surprising cameos were on the way.

The director spoke about the fun of exploring the Quantum Realm, which looks set to take center-stage as a major setting for the third Ant-Man film. Ant-Man’s explorations of all things beginning with “Quantum” will bring him face-to-face with the MCU’s newest big bad, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.

Revealing that Kang isn’t the only surprising face Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man will encounter, Peyton Reed said:

“Oh yes, there’s great fun in store for everyone and some surprising faces that may show up in the Quantum Realm. So yes, we’re very excited.”

It’s not yet clear who else might show up in the Quantum Realm, but given Marvel’s recent host of cameos from across the Multiverse, just about anything is possible.

Speaking about Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in the same interview, Paul Rudd touched upon what it is about Scott Lang that makes him such a fun character to play and what makes him stand out amongst other characters in the MCU:

“Well, it’s fun to play a kind of a regular guy, who’s thrown into these extraordinary circumstances. And you know, a guy who seems to be somewhat conflicted about being a superhero. And so to try and play against that, and be somewhat relatable, and still do crazy things, it’s a really fun challenge and it’s fun to do every single time.”

Fans will get to see just who else is hanging around in the Quantum Realm when Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters in February. Coming face-to-face with the formidable Kang the Conqueror will probably see Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne needing all the help they can get.

Ant-Man and the Wasp last appeared in Avengers: Endgame. Here is the film’s synopsis:
