Creed expanded the Rocky universe by bringing the son of Apollo Creed to the forefront of the franchise. Following the success of Creed III, Amazon seeks to expand the universe further with the help of Michael B. Jordan.
Creed has been a massive success in revitalizing the classic Rocky franchise. The first film beat out the initial attempt at a series resurrection in Rocky Balboa by $30 million at the box office, with each film doing better than its predecessor. Following the smash debut of Creed III, Deadline reports conversations about expanding the Creed universe are now underway.
Details are sparce due to many of the conversations being exploratory in nature. However, new projects for the Creed-Verse could include an anime series based on the universe and a companion TV series to the films. There are also early talks for a film based on the daughter of Jordan’s Adonis Creed, Amara Creed, who is played by the deaf actress Mila Davis-Kent in Creed III. This would mark, not only the first deaf lead in a Rocky film, but also the first female lead. These projects, if any come to light, would join the previously announced Drago spin-off in building out the Creed-Verse.
Who is attached to the third Creed movie?
Creed III marks the directorial debut of Michael B. Jordan, with the actor following in the footsteps of Steven Caple Jr. and Ryan Coogler. The script of the third Creed movie was written by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin.
In addition to Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, Creed III includes Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Mila Davis-Kent as Amara Creed, Wood Harris as Tony “Little Duke” Evers and Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago.
Besides Creed III, MGM is currently developing a Creed spin-off film focusing on Viktor Drago, son of Ivan, the villain of 1985’s Rocky IV and Creed II. Robert Lawton is writing the screenplay, thanks to his work a spec script about the making of the first Rocky film.
