Dakota Johnson Wants To Bring Heart To Sony’s ‘Madame Web’ Film

Maybe it will be what the movie needs.

Dakota Johnson has opened up a bit about her role in Sony’s upcoming film, Madame Web, and hopes to bring heart to the superhero film.

Back in 2014, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released in theaters. While not a complete flop, the film was heavily criticized for being less a movie as being one big setup for future Spider-Man spinoffs. The film ultimately underperformed at the box office causing Sony to scrap most of these plans. thanks to Venom‘s box office success, however, the studio is still moving forward with many spinoff films, which include Madame Web.

Back and late 2019, it was revealed that Sony was developing a Madame Web film. Dakota Johnson of 50 Shades of Gray fame was eventually cast in the lead role. Since the films ended, however, Johnson has been taking on roles in lower-budgeted, independent films. Now she hopes to bring the heart that you find in those kinds of productions.

Little Film Heart Into A Blockbuster

While speaking to Collider, Dakota Johnson, touched on this and how she was hoping to bring the heart of independent pictures to a major, big-budgeted blockbuster:

“I guess having experience on all tiers of films I can bring maybe some stuff from the little movies to the big movies that I want to see in them, you know? I really love seeing large-scale films that still have heart in them.”

Here is the synopsis for Sony’s latest Marvel film, Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
