‘Lost’ Creator Damon Lindelof Says Marvel Should Release Fewer Movies

Quality over quantity?

Damon Lindelof, the creator of Lost and producer on HBO’s Watchmen, has said he would like to see Marvel Studios releasing fewer movies a year to make each one feel more special.

Marvel has become a Hollywood powerhouse since the release of Iron Man in 2008, the first film produced under the Marvel Studios banner. As the company and their cinematic universe have grown, Marvel has started releasing multiple films – and now Disney Plus series – every year.

While the MCU continues to impress fans and general audiences alike, the question of fatigue has always hung over the company’s head and some, such as Damon Lindelof, may be worried about oversaturation.

Marvel Studios: The Case For Slowing Down

In a recent interview with Vulture, Damon Lindelof expressed his admiration for Marvel but also said that he wishes the studio would take a slower approach to their release schedule.

While Lindelof acknowledged the desire to capitalize on people’s positive response to Marvel movies and the natural desire to grow the Marvel Cinematic Universe as quickly as possible, he said that releasing one or two good films a year could make them feel that much more special.

Sharing his thoughts on how Marvel Studios might change their approach to movie releases, Lindelof said:

“This is a business. It’s an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is, ‘We need to make more Marvel movies, and we need to expand this.’ And I have this sort of interior feeling of like, ‘Wow, I wish they made less because it would make each one that came out a little bit more special.’ But I watch all of them … People don’t want things to end. I do.”

With the advent of Disney Plus and increasingly ambitious theatrical plans, Marvel is now releasing more projects more quickly than ever before. Next year alone, the studio is releasing four movies and at least four Disney Plus series.

While all of the individual projects continue to excite fans and grow the MCU in interesting new ways, maybe slowing down those releases would allow fans’ anticipation to heighten that little bit more.

Here is the synopsis for the next release from Marvel Studios, She-Hulk:

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

The series premieres on Disney Plus on August 18th. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the MCU, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
