‘Doctor Strange 2’ Concept Art Shows Daniel Craig In Full Costume As Balder

The former James Bond almost joined the Marvel family.

A new piece of concept art from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows Daniel Craig suited up as Balder the Brave.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced audiences to a live-action take on Marvel’s Illuminati, a group of superheroes that protected one of the parallel Earths seen in the movie. The group consisted of six heroes — Captain Carter, Baron Mordo, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel, Reed Richards and Professor Charles Xavier.

Daniel Craig’s cut Doctor Strange 2 role

As first reported back in May, Daniel Craig almost made an appearance as a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Craig turned the opportunity to appear in the movie due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases at the time of filming. Craig was initially believed to have turned down the role of Mr. Fantastic but it turns out that the was actually supposed to play Balder the Brave.

Now, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness concept artist Darrell Warner has shared his design for Balder the Brave. His artwork shows the former James Bond actor in full costume as the character, holding a sword. You can check out the concept art for the Doctor Strange sequel below.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Balder the Brave made his first comic book appearance in the pages of Journey into Mystery #85, which was released in October 1962. The character is one of the Norse Gods of Asgard and the half-brother of Thor.
